Christian’s Solo Performance

Here is Christian in a rare solo performance!  Typically he only sings with Taylor or myself, but he decided to give us a real treat and sing for us his rendition of both “Twinkle, Twinkle” and “Jesus Loves Me”.  You can see little Luke comes in and accompanies Christian with the triangle instrument for some added flavor!  At the end I told him to ”take a bow” and he promptly started singing “take a bow” not understanding what I meant…so cute!  Hope you enjoy!

Taylor and Christian’s Band

For Christmas, Taylor, Christian, and Luke received a Melissa and Doug First Band Set from Mommy and Daddy.  Here is Taylor and Christian playing two of the instruments from this set.  As you can see, they are actually pretty good, in that they can find the beat to the song.  Not too bad….for 4 and 2 years old.  They love to sing!

Taylor and Christian Playing in the Snow with Daddy

Taylor and Christian had a lot of fun playing in the snow with Daddy a couple of weeks ago.  We don’t get snow very often (that actually stays that is) so when it does snow here we take advantage.  As you can see, we did get a fair amount for this part of the country.

Happy Birthday to Grandma Jan

Taylor sings Happy Birthday to Grandma Jan with a little help from Christian.  Christian was more interested in watching the video than being a part of the video itself.  We wish you a Happy Birthday.

Taylor sings Jesus Loves Me

Taylor loves to sing, so when I asked her to sing Jesus Loves Me last night she enthusiastically did so.  Here is the video clip.

Potty Training

Christian sitting on the potty

Well, we  have started the potty training process with Christian this last week.  He is doing really well with it this time around.  I had attempted to potty train him shortly after he turned 2, but quickly realized he was not ready for this big step.  So, fast forward 8 months and Christian is doing much better.  We have spent a great deal of time in the bathroom though in the past week, all 4 of us.  Potty training is really a group effort in our family.  The cast of characters are as follows:  the main boy, Christian on the potty; the supervisor, mommy on the floor reading books; the cheerleader, Taylor, shouting hooray when Christian does his thing; and finally Luke the baby milling about just exploring all the wonderful things in the bathroom.  In case you are wondering, Daddy is at work when we are doing all of this.  Of course, Taylor and Christian make sure he is filled in on the days activities when he gets home.  Spending all this time on the potty has sparked some interesting conversations and curiosity about the opposite sex for Taylor and Christian in that they have noticed they are different (I don’t know why this particular event has sparked such curiosity as all 3 kids take a bath together every single day).  Scott and I have decided to teach our kids the correct anatomical terms for their private parts.  Taylor at first was calling her private area and Christians private areas their “front butts”.  So, once again I corrected her and told her she (and all girls) have a vagina (or as Christian calls it a “ba-gina”) and that boys have a penis.  Picture it, Christian on the potty, me and Taylor sitting on the floor, Luke milling about and they start a chorus of “I have a penis” and ”I have a vagina” all very enthusiastically.  Later on that day while we are eating lunch, out of the blue while eating, Christian blurts out “I have penis” just in case any of us forgot I guess.  Anyway, the fun and excitement of potty training.  One perk is that we have read a ton of books and are on Chapter 12 already in our Pinnochio book while encouraging Christian to do his thing.  Also, the conversations and funny stories that happen each and every time we lock ourselves in our bathroom patiently waiting for Christian to “pee-pee” on the potty like the story above of us listening to Christian sing “I have a penis”!

“Fashion Statement or Faux Paux?”

“Fashion Statement or Fashion Faux Paux?”

Yesterday I bought Luke a new pair of black shoes, came home and put them on the kitchen counter and forgot about them.  After a very messy dinner which necessitated me to strip Luke down to his diaper (which happens after most evening meals) I saw those black shoes and wondered how they would fit him.  So, I put some socks on Luke and his new black shoes and let him walk around the house to test drive them.  After seeing my baby walking around excitedly in his diaper, gray socks and black shoes I thought this is a good look for him…or is it?  Babies look cute wearing just about anything, doing just about anything.  I am quite certain that if my husband or any other man would dare to “test drive”  this look they would wind up on some late-nite talk show bit or in the worst dressed category of some magazine with the title “What was he thinking?”

Getting this picture of Luke in his new look was not easy by the way.  He thought it was a game of cat and mouse, where the crazy Mommy with the camera was chasing the bait, a fashionable baby in new black shoes.  He thought it was hilarious I could not catch him standing and looking at me to get a good picture.  Well, as you can see, I finally got a picture of him to show all of you his new black shoes.  I don’t think Luke was very happy with me taking this picture, as you can see by him putting his hand out towards me as if to say “No, I am not decent”.
