The kids at Dulles Airport

The kids are taking a snack break at Dulles Airport after a long day of traveling. It was beautiful the day we arrived, I think about 60 and sunny. Scott took the shuttle bus to get our rental van while the kids and I waited in a parking area just outside the airport. We didn’t think it would be wise to bring 3 kids, 3 carseats, and about 7 pieces of luggage plus carry-ons on a shuttle bus. To keep the kids corraled during snack time I buckled them in their carseats. We were the official greeters during this time as the kids waved and said Hello to everyone that passed us by. I can’t tell you how many times I heard “Boy, you have your hands full”! I guess seeing me alone with 3 small kids and all that luggage took people aback a little. The kids did so good on both flights and we received many compliments about them. Even at this point they happily ate their snack, Oh my wonderful weary travelers!
Washington Monument

On Sunday we drove into Washington DC to look around and get a feel for the city.  We were not able to walk around much due to the weather being a bit chilly, parking issues, and having 3 young kids.  Instead we drove around the city and took some pictures from the car.  We were able to get a pretty good picture of the Washington Monument above (yes, this is from the car…not bad).  We drove the Mall and saw the Capitol Building, the Library of Congress, and the Smithsonian (just to name a few, so much more to see).  We were not able to see the White House yet as we did not get out and walk much.  We had our rental car with a navigation system in it so we put in the address for the White House and the GPS kept wanting us to drive down streets that had restricted access.  I guess you can’t just drive up to the White House or even by it…lol!  Anyway, we had lunch, drove around a bit and came home.  I am sure this is just the first of many more visits to our Nation’s capital.
